Is LAMP easier to learn than MEAN?

I've seem some claims that handling JSON data in Express.js is " simpler" than using PHP.

But Express seems to require a lot more configuration. I don't know PHP, but PHP tutorials seem much simpler.

Given that, why would someone prefer using Express/NodeJS instead of PHP? (for small projects).
