Response time increases with number of calls in a nodeJS API

I have built a nodeJS API which does heavy IO operations, but I have noticed the response time for the 500th call would be about 4-5 times slower than the first call, If I restart the app then the response time becomes normal. Any idea why this might be happening and how to fix this
