Nodejs suggest friends based on mutual friends or similar interest

I'm new to nodejs and i'm working on a social app with nodejs and MongoDB backend. I have implemented send friend request, add friends feature. Now i have to work on recommendation system like suggest friends based on mutal friends, similar interests, places etc. I think it's a machine learning problem. Can anyone suggest me how can i do that?
