Is HTTP.Agent class used in server side or client side in node.js?

I am little confused about the fact that agent class is used to connect to hosts (i.e agent.createConnection) and also keeping the record of sockets awaiting use by the agent (agent.freeSockets), maybe this is simple but I can't get this.
