Is it possible to make a chrome extension that can scrape text from another site to display on the chrome extension?

I have a working node.js web scraper, and I was wondering if it was possible to make something similar in a chrome extension. The chrome extension would scrape text from another site, then display the information on the chrome extension. Is this possible at all?

How about chrome apps? Although making it in a chrome extension is much more preferred.
