Check if file write is finished outside of writestream context (Node.js)

I have two workers -- if They both recieve the same request I don't want them both to download a file. Optimally I want one to check if the other is already writing the file, if it is, wait until it is finished, and then continue on.

Is this possible? How should I go about doing this? Thanks.
